PERTH'S title as the City of Lights is set to get an impressive reboot with the opening of the new stadium next year.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray last night demonstrated the power of the state of the art lighting system around the new facility, with a test of the full range of different colours and sequences.

Across the stadium, a dazzling display will be created by more than 15,000 LED lights - the biggest in the world.

Outside the venue this evening, 43 arches of the 450 metre arbour were illuminated with 1.4km of LED lighting, while inside, the halo roof lights and sports lights were switched on in combination with two giant screens, the largest in the southern hemisphere.

Together, the halo roof lighting system and the flood lights light up the Stadium’s fabric roof to create a giant canvas showing a variety of colours, including purple for the Dockers, blue and gold for the Eagles or orange for the Scorchers.

With the stadium more than 95 per cent complete, Mr Murray said fans would be the biggest beneficiaries of the new venue.

“The lighting component of Perth Stadium is one of the most stunning features of this state of the art facility,” he said.

“It sets a new benchmark for stadium lighting in Australia.

"It is yet another world-class design feature which will help create the ultimate ‘fans first’ experience.”
